Dr. Ming-Liang Lai is an assistant professor at the Graduate Institute of Intellectual Property of National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech.). He received a MSEE from National Taiwan University in 2000, and a Ph. D. from the College of Science and Engineering, University of Glasgow in 2015, respectively. Dr. Lai has diverse experiences in academia and industries. From 2003 to 2005, he was employed at Delta Electronics Inc., where he served as an engineer and pursued research in the areas of RF functional devices and circuits. Afterwards, Dr. Lai passed the Civil Service Senior examination to be a patent assistant examiner in Taiwan Intellectual Property Office and worked there for more than 4 years. In 2010, he was supported by Taiwan government scholarship to study biomedical engineering in University of Glasgow, UK. His research topic was about developing biosensors. 

Before he joined Taipei Tech. in August 2017, he worked for Academia Sinica (AS) as a section chief of the Intellectual Property Transfer Department. He led a team to manage and protect intellectual properties of AS. His team encouraged the disclosure of inventions, applied patents and contacted with potential licensees that are capable of developing and commercializing the technologies into products and services for the public benefit. In addition, Dr. Lai cultivated relationship among industry, academia, and government to foster partnerships and collaboration.

Dr. Lai’s current research and scope of teaching include: intellectual property management, patent related topics on electronics and biomedical device industries, conflict of interest related issues, and practice on licensing.
